{{adminhelp}} Olympiacos active departments section template requires a change. Olympiacos women's volleyball and Olympiacos Women's Water Polo Team should be added to the active departments, so the new lay-out would be Volleyball (men's), Volleyball (women's), Water polo (men's), Water polo (women's). I have no idea how to do that so I decided to ask for an administrator's help. Please inform me of how the above-mentioned change can be done, or most preferably, make the change yourselves as administrators. I would be grateful if an experienced admin helps me on this providing an answer, or -even better- if he makes this necessary change solving the issue once and for all. Thanking you in advance, Gtrbolivar (talk) 19:40, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism and swearing from user 46.177.102.101

[edit]

{{admin help}} This guy 46.177.102.101 made a series of unconstructive, unjustified and unproper edits. I made the corrections providing an explanation and he kept doing the same thing. At his last edit he continued his unconstuctive work (changed the name colors of the club for no reason for the thousandth time) and he called me names in Greek, writing on the article. I chose not to swear back and leave the matter to the admins. Thanking you in advance, Gtrbolivar (talk) 21:53, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Player nationality is set by what national team they play on

[edit]

Lojeski not only has a Belgian passport, he plays for Belgium national team, not Team USA. Simmons not only has a Bulgarian passport, he plays for Bulgaria national team, and not Team USA. Every roster template is set to nationality of the country of the national team the player plays for. Neither of them plays for Team USA.Bluesangrel (talk) 11:56, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Who says that a player's nationality is set by the national team? Is there an order or a custom that says so? Why not define nationality as the country of origin? The fact that an American player acquires another country's citizenship and plays for another national team doesn't mean that his nationality changes. I am looking forward to Bluesangrel's plausible answer. Gtrbolivar (talk) 15:30, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It says it on Olympiacos roster template: And this same thing is stated on every roster template of every single Euroleague team on Wikipedia. That is what I am going by. Also, if we are to set it bu country of origin, then Michael Bramos for example should be listed as American on Panathinaikos article. If you do not want national team to matter. It is same on Olympiacos roster. If we are going to list Simmons and Lojeski as Americans, then we need to change the listing for Begic. He is listed as being from Slovenia, but that's wrong then. Even though he has a Slovenian passport and plays for Slovenia, his country of origin is Bosnia, and he's Bosnian. Begic should be listed as Bosnian then, and Bramos should be listed as American then, and same with all other such examples. Also, the nationality template that players should be listed by what national team they play on should be removed from Olympiacos roster and for all other Euroleague rosters also. As Olympiacos roster is now, it is edited incorrect and is factually wrong, as it states the national team affiliations of Lojeski and Simmons as being USA, when they are Bulgaria and Belgium. And if we set nationality as country of origin, then we have to chance the flags on tons of team articles, because many of the nationalities are not listed by country of origin.Bluesangrel (talk) 05:42, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine to put both nationalites, but it's just that all the Euroleague team articles list it by "FIBA nationality", as in the national team they play on. So I think we would need to open a discussion on that, or get a mod to chime in. Otherwise we are cganhing something that i believe was already decided on through discussion. I will ask a mod that handles tons of basketball stuff about it.Bluesangrel (talk) 00:03, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's possible to include two flags for each player. I'd prefer to do that for cases like Cedric Simmons, Bo McCalebb, and the like. Nowadays, there a lots of American players who get a passport for some other country just for the exposure. While FIBA may classify them as Hungarian, Macedonian, or whatever, the reality is that they've spent the vast majority of their lives in the US. (Some of these guys have never even held a job in their FIBA countries.) Zagalejo^^^ 01:04, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree 100% with Zagalejo (except for the "Macedonian" part). Gtrbolivar (talk) 21:57, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This does not answer my questions though. All Euroleague teams have the template listing that nationality is listed by FINA nationality, as in what national team they do or would play with. If we list two flags, then that becomes incorrect. If we list the country of origin flag that becomes incorrect. Also, we mention Americans, but I gave cases of other examples not being mentioned. Michael Bramos or Nick Calathes for example are Americans. But play for Greek national team. So would they be listed as Americans or both? It's not same as Simmons for example, because they are Greek Americans. Do you see what I mean? Same thing how I mention case of Begic just in Olympiacos roster. He's got Slovene nationality and plays for Slovenia, but the guy is a Bosnian, not a Slovene. Just from guys in Turkey and former Yugoslav countries this can create a huge headache in listing and picking nationality. I believe that is why it came to how it is now that they just list by FIBA nationality. Because of the constant warring over what flag would be listed. Listing both flags is fine, but then that conflicts with the nationality template on the rosters, which says nationality is listed by national team. So for example if you list Lojeski as both American and Belgian, then people will not know which national team he would represent, without looking it up. Because you can't represent two national teams. So then do we remove the nationality template from all the Euroleague team rosters?Bluesangrel (talk) 22:58, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, I'd be OK removing the flag icons altogether. (I'm sure I've said that in previous discussions.) The real world sometimes gets too complicated to define people so precisely. That said, it would be best to take this discussion to a broader forum, like Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Basketball, or Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Icons. Question regarding a template

[edit]

Hello admins, I'd like to ask you something about a template I used. As you can see here Olympiacos B.C.#Seasons the template works fine, but ideally I would like the cursor to start from the bottom of the box (from the newest season, up to the older ones) when somebody visits the page. Is there any way I can achieve that? Thank you in advance, Gtrbolivar (talk) 23:38, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I'm not an admin but am curious, Gtrbolivar, as to why you didn't just put the most recent season at the top of the table and then work downward to the earliest dates? – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 04:06, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What I asked you about is illustrated on this page. It took about 5 minutes to do this so it's no big deal if you don't want to use it. Also curious what happened to 1964–65, 1965–66, and 1966–67? – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 06:25, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am replacing your {{adminhelp}} tag with {{help me}}, as there is no reason why an administrator should be more likely to know about this than anyone else. You are more likely to find someone who can help if you cast the net wider. You may have a still better chance of getting help on this if instead you post to Wikipedia:Help desk. Thanks for your comment on Byron Jones, I guess we are referring to the same person. On the background i've given, it was from our research on back issues of sports magazines and had to admit, im also looking for more information regarding Jones playing career overseas, he is popularly known in the Philippines as Snake Jones in the 1970s and somehow, that's the only infos I had, I'll message you again if I can gather the same that you have written. You got it all wrong. My intention was to add a FREE IMAGE from commons which happens to have exactly the same name with the non-free image of Zachariadis. I wrote the name of the file but instead of the free image, the non-free image appeared again. Here is the free image I'm refering to: [1]. I requested the renaming of each of the files but without any success. Sometimes the truth is surprisingly complicated. Gtrbolivar (talk) 15:33, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, I came here to merge conversations together but you've archived our conversation already. No worries. But anyway...actually, I got it right. A non-free image was added...which isn't correct under WP:NFLISTS. I removed it. It's that simple. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:13, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hammersoft you accused me that despite your "warning", I kept adding non-free files on the list. I explained that it was not my intention. My intention was to add a FREE image that happened to have the same name with the non-free. It was done unintentionally. So your words "And here we are again (...). Is there some part of this you are not clear about" were completely out of line. It's that simple. Gtrbolivar (talk) 18:52, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for now

[edit]

Though the IP is not; hasn't edited via the IP since the block. See if the EW starts up again. I was using wp:huggle and didn't pay much attention other than the "unexplained removal of content". On noticeboards such as ANI, I would recommend using {{userlinks|Jim1138}} for editors who you are complaining about. This produces {{userlinks|Jim1138)). I hope you don't userlinks my name on ANI! Also, may I suggest using "evidence" instead of "proof". I always think of "proof" as being something mathematical and seem to notice more experienced editors using "evidence".

Here are a few links and templates I find useful. I have them on my user page for reference.

My apology, I never thought you were complaining about me. BTW: You can wp:ping a registered user by adding (for me) {{ping|Jim1138}}, signing "~~~~" and then saving both together. They need to be saved together in order for the notification to occur. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:38, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Gtrbolivar, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 04:18, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for giving me a heads-up Malinaccier. I read the outline of the "autopatrolled editor" article. It's a kind of editor evaluation and if an editor is found reliable and the articles he's created are valid and commensurate with wikipedia policies he becomes "autopatrolled". I only have one question. Is there something I should do? Gtrbolivar (talk) 12:58, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes you have the understanding correct. This is a way of saying that what you have been doing is good and a mark to others that there is less urgency to check your work. And nope, just keep on cranking out good articles and enjoying yourself! Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia! Malinaccier (talk) 16:45, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A query :)

[edit]

Dear @Gtrbolivar

I was wondering if you, a notable user, might take a look at this situation for me. Previously, I wanted to add section titles on the article Roberto Firmino (as is done on many other pages, e.g. Mohamed Salah, Lionel Messi and Steven Gerrard) as I feel that the article is lacking them and that the article deserves them to break it up. However, a user named GiantSnowman vehemently disagreed with me and then reverted very many of my edits. I was pondering if you might provide your opinion on this situation (the full conversation can be found here: Talk:Roberto Firmino#Opinion), and maybe reply back to me with your thoughts, if you have any?

Warm regards,

From Scientelensia (talk) 17:30, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
